1.3.3.3 ASSEMBLY OF RACK & PINON

1. Assemble the Rack bush (02) and Apply sterak

grease on the bush inner diameter.

2. Assemble the IBJs on one side. During assembly,

apply loctite 542 (or any thread sealant) and tighten

the IBJs to the required torque.

3. Smear the Shell sterak grease on rack on outer

diameter and on the tooth root and surfaces.

4. Insert the Rack with IBJ into the Housing set via

Housing.

5. Assemble the Inner ball joint to the outer end of

Rack and secure it against Rack to specified

torque. Follow the same procedure to tighten IBJ

as mentioned in step 2.

6. Pull the Rack together with IBJ against inner face

of housing. Apply 20g of Sterak grease into case

steering gear. Insert Pinion bearing sub assembly

with the Rack held as mentioned above.

7. Apply few drops of Loctite 542 on Pinion cover

thread and assemble the Pinion cover (14) tospec-

ified torque (8 - 10 kg-m).

8. Apply Molykote grease onOil seal (12) and Pressit

into the groove of Pinion Cover (11).

9. Turn theHousing in such a way that the Yoke Bore

is upright and assemble the yoke (08) and spring

(09).
