1.3.2 PRECAUTIONS
The following general precautions to be followed dur-
ing servicing and during overhauling of rack and
pinion assembly:
Plug the ports tight with protective caps in the
steering gear.
Use only special tools and do not hammer to re-
move components from steering gear.
Do not attempt to weld any broken steering com-
ponent. Replace the component with the original
equipment.
Always clean off around the reservoir filler cap before
its removal to prevent entry of dirt particles and foreign
material into the hydraulic system
1.3.3 DISMANTLING, INSPECTION AND AS-
SEMBLY
1.3.3.1 DISASSEMBLY OF RACK & PINON
1. Hold the Steering Gear on a soft jaw vice.
2. Remove lock nut (16) and remove both the Outer
Ball Joints (14 &15) from the steering gear.
3. Take out outer ball joint assembly. (14 & 15)
4. Remove the bellow clips (19) on either side using
the plier and dispose them.
5. Remove the Bellow strap (20) and dispose them.
6. Remove the Bellows (18) on both side and dis-
pose.
7. Loosen the Inner Ball Joints (13) from the Rack by
arresting the Rack (7) with 36 mm double end
spanner. (Rack shouldnot twist whileloosening inner
ball joint).
8. Loosen the Yoke Cover (10) using 17 mm double
end spanner and dispose the Yoke cover.
