SUPPLEMENTARY RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS)
8
C. SEAT BELT (PRE-TENSIONER)
Seat belt assembly can be directly held in bench
vice. Seat belt webbing length could be cut prior to
deployment.
5. Use a 2 core electrical wire at least 15m long,
and connect to the pig-tail.
6. Place a vehicle battery or equivalent source at a
distance of 15m from the restraints module as-
sembly. The battery voltage shall be in the range
of 8-16V.
7. Connect one core of the electrical wire to the
positive (+ve) battery terminal.
DO NOT CON-
NECT THE OTHER CORE WITH NEGATIVE (-
ve) BATTERY TERMINAL.
8. Make sure that no person is present within 15m
radius of the "to be disposed" module assembly.
9. Connect the other core of the electrical wire with
the negative (-ve) battery terminal for deploy-
ment of module assembly.
10. After deployment, wait for at least 10 minutes to
ensure that none of the components within the
module assembly is too hot.
11. Take out the deployed module assembly from
bench vice and conduct suitable activities to-
wards scrapping of the constituent components.
Airbag module assemblies are generally made
up of aluminum, stainless steel or mild steel, ny-
lon, plastic etc. After the module assembly is
removed from bench vise, the constituent com-
ponents could be scrapped as per the guide-
lines/laws for non-hazardous waste materials
11.1.6 COMPONENTS
11.1.6.1 RESTRAINT WITHOUT AIRBAGS
Restraints system without airbags consists of follow-
ing main components:
Seat Belt.
Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR).
Micro-switch.
A. SEAT BELT
With these seat belts occupants have to buckle the
seat belts before starting to drive the vehicle.
B. EMERGENCY LOCKING RETRACTOR (ELR)
It is a locking mechanismwhich is activated in follow-
ing conditions:
When a sudden deceleration is sensed
When the seat belt webbing pull-out speed ex-
ceeds a threshold value
When one side of the vehicle is more inclined
than the other side.
e.g. If one of the vehicle tyre goes off-road during
driving.
C. MICROSWITCH AND SEAT BELT REMINDER
(SBR) WARNING LAMP
Micro switch is a device which indicates the condition
of the seat belts. This switch activates the warning
light
(which is in the instrument cluster
) if the seat
belts are not buckled properly.
