860 HVAC FLUSHING OF A/C SYSTEM Flushing is a process of removing foreign particles from the A/C system. Flushing must be performed when the system is contaminated or there is debris in the system from compressor failure. WhenA/C compressors fail, it may cause bad effects. The typical A/C compressor is built like a small reciprocating engine. They have cylinders, pistons, piston r ings, valves, bear ings, etc. When a compressor fails it often sheds fragments of these internal components. This can happen all at once or slowly over time. Little bits/pieces of compressor can end up in condenser, hose assemblies, expansion valve and evaporator. NOTE: 1. If we replace a compressor and don’t flush all of this foreign mater ial out of the system, this debris would circulate through the system and the cycle would repeat i tsel f as the new compressor grinds to a halt. 2. Flushing also removes excess oil from the system. If you suspect the system contains too much oil, flushing is a way to start fresh so you can establish the correct quantity of refrigerant oil in the system. Fol lowing points should be noted whi le performing a flushing process: 1. Flush individual components. 2. Self made flushing will be required asA/C system component fittings all differ in size, shape and thread size. 3. When replacing air conditioning parts with new ones, it is necessary to replenish oil by approx. the same amount which is remaining in each part. 4. Reverse flush components. 5. Do not flush through a compressor otherwise possible internal damage could occur. 6. Recover / recycle flushing refrigerant, the recovery device will remove contaminants through a filtration system. CAUTION: Be sure to use specified compressor oil only. Replenishing compressor oi l or Flushing of compressor : (a) While reinstalling the Original Compressor flushing should be done as follows : 1. Drain and measure the refrigerant oil contained in the compressor. 2. Charge oil through the discharge port of the compressor with the same amount of new refrigerant oil.
