DRIVESHAFT AMT 7 5. ON BENCH PROCEDURE A. TRIPOT JOINT DISASSEMBLY: 1. Hold the centre of the axle shaft in the vice as shown in below Fig. and clean the shaft throughly, using cleaning solvent. Important: Do not damage the sealing surface of outer housing. 2. Remove the small seal retaining clamp from the axle shaft with a side cutter or by tapping the clamp ear junction screw driver with rounded edge as marked in below figure. Discard the small retaining clamp. Important: The screw driver should not damage the seal. 3. Remove the larger retaining clamp from the inboard joint by using the screw driver/plier. 4. Separate the housing assembly from the seal at large diameter as shown in figure Slide the seal away from the joint axle shaft. 5. Remove the spider assembly circlip by using plier and discard the retaining ring. 6. Remove the tripot spider assembly from the axle shaft as showing below figure. If required tab the spider assembly gently using a nylon mallet. 7. Clean the following items thoroughly with cleaning solvent. Remove all traces of old grease and any contaminates. A. Tripot balls B. Needle rollers C. Housing 8. Dry all the parts. Inspect these parts for damage or wear. (If any of the parts are damaged, the entire sub- assembly along with the outer housing needs to be replaced.). 9. After this remove the rubber boot from the axle shaft.
