Battery charge indicator lamp does not glow: The Lamp comes on when Ignition is switch ‘ON”. Once the engine is start, it turns off. Check if bulb is faulty. Check fuse continuity. Replace if necessary. If it remains “ON” while the engine is running, it indicates that the battery is not getting charged or having the lower charge. In such cases, attempt to charge the battery with 3000 engine rpm for 15 minutes and see if the battery tell-tale goes off after one ignition ON –OFF. Even after 15 minutes, Charging the battery telltale keeps ‘ON’ then switch off all unnecessary electrical equipment and contact the nearest TATA Motors authorized service center. b. Warning lamp continues to glow: Check the belt tension. If found slack, adjust the belt deflection to the specified value. Repeat test. REMOVAL AND REFITMENT OF ALTERNATOR: (Refer Engine section) DIAGNOSTIC INFORMATION AND PROCEDURES FOR ALTERNATOR & BATTERY CONDITION POSSIBLE CAUSES CORRECTION/REFERENCE ITEM Battery getting discharged Leakage current is high due to extra accessories fitted on the vehicle. Max permissible leakage current is 10mA. Measure the leakage current. If it is greater than 10mA, disconnect the idle power consuming accessories. Battery not getting charged 1. Alternator belt loose. 2. Battery terminals loose. 3. Battery terminals corroded. 4. Alternator voltage regulator. 5. Idle speed of engine too low. 1. Tighten belt. 2. Tighten the terminals. 3. Clean the terminals. 4. Check alternator output voltage with headlamp. ON. It should be between 12 V and 15 V. Otherwise replace the regulator with a genuine spare. 5. Adjust engine idle speed.
