FUEL SYSTEM 1 1.1 INTRODUCTION The main components of the fuel system are fuel tank, tank pressure valve, fuel filter, fuel module, carbon canister, fuel lines & canister purge valve. Fuel module has three subassemblies: - 1. Fuel Pump with in built Pressure Regulator 2. Fuel Level Sensor Assembly 3. Roll Over Valve Fuel System has three lines that are: 1) Fuel Feed Line 2) Fuel Return Line 3) Fuel Vapor Line The fuel in the tank is pumped up by the electric fuel pump inbuilt on the fuel module, filtered by the fuel filter and feed with specified pressure to engine rail. The fuel pressure at the injector is always higher than the intake manifold pressure. The fuel is inject- ed into the intake port of the cylinder head when the injector opens according to the injection signal from ECU (Engine Control Unit). The evaporative emission control system stores vapour formed in the fuel tank in canister and ECU operated purge valve allows purging of the stored vapours in intake manifold system as and when re- quired based on EMS. 1.2 PRECAUTIONS Precautions to be followed while performing repair or maintenance of fuel system: 1) Fuel is explosive. When working on fuel system make sure to supply adequate ventilation to the work area. Do not smoke and keep sparks and open flames away from workspace. 2) Disconnect negative cable terminal of battery. 3) Release the fuel pressure from the fuel system to reduce the possibility of injury or fire. 4) Before repairing fuel tank assembly, clean it thoroughly to remove traces of fuel. 5) Always wear safety glasses and gloves. 1.3 SPECIFICATIONS Pump Pressure Fuel pump pressure (with inbuilt pressure regulator) 3.5 bar Canister Canister capacity 25 BWC Filter Fuel filter type In-line Tank Fuel tank capacity 24 Litres Fuel Unleaded regular grade petrol confirming to IS 2796/DIN E228 (or equivalent) and octane rating not less than 88 RON for BS-II , 91 RON for BS_III and 95 RON for BSIV is recommended as fuel (RON stands for Research Octane Number).
