STEERING 17 9. Remove the spring (9) 10. Yoke (8) from the housing. 11. Loosen the Pinion Cover (11) using 42 mm double end spanner and Remove the Pinion bearing Sub assembly (4, 5, and 6). Dispose the Pinion cover (11) along with the oil seal (12). 12. Remove theRack (7). 1.3.3.2 INSPECTION OF DISMANTLED PARTS 1. Examine the Housing set which consists of Case steering Gear (1), Bottom bush (3). If damage to any of the above components is evident then hous- ing set must be replaced as a set. 2. Examine the Rack-bush (2) for damage or excessive wear leading to loose fit with Rack. If any of the above is evident, remove the Rack Bush by knocking it out of the housing using a mandrel gently. 3. Examine the Rack & Pinion set which consists of Rack (7), Pinion (4), Bal l bearing (5) and Re- tainer ring (6). If damage to any of the above item is evident then the rack and Pinion set must be replaced as set. 4. Examine the Yoke (8) for Excessive wear and damage. If fit between yoke bore on Case Steering Gear and Yoke is slack in either of de- signs, replace the Yoke by new one. If dam- age is evident, replace the Yoke. 5. Examine the Yoke Spring (9). If found to be damaged or found to be solid (compressed set) replace the part. 6. Examine Inner Ball Joints (13) andOuter Ball joints (15) for service failures (any play discard level more than 0.1 mm at 100 g). If damage to the joints is evident, replace the parts. 7. In case of accident vehicle and also during regular overhaul the Rack (7), Pinion (4) and Housing set should be checked for visual cracks, breakage and bend. Check Rack and Pinion for micro cracks. If any one of the above is evident, replace the parts.
