SRS / Airbag ECU AB12 DTC Troubleshooting Guide Version: 2.0 Date: 21-June-2021 Annexure 1 – General Instructions to handle Airbag ECU and its Components 1. Prevent sensor elements from extreme shock loads, e.g. hammer blow on or next to the sensor, dropping the sensor onto hard surfaces, etc. 2. Sequence for mounting Airbag ECU in vehicles a. Assure that power supply is interrupted. Then connect the wire harness to the Airbag ECU. b. Connect Power Supply 3. It must be ensured that modules with visible damages (housing, connectors, pins, etc.) are not mounted in the vehicle. Modules with visible damages must be removed from the assembly line/Service. 4. The modules must not have contact to fluids or dust or other contamination during storage and installation process 5. Before installing the modules, it must be ensured that there are no foreign parts between the modules and the mounting surface. The modules should only have contact to the substructure at their fixation points in the car body. 6. Do not use brute force or tools (hammer, a pair of pliers, etc.) to place the modules at their designated positions. 7. Fix the ECU on mounting studs & tighten the mounting screws. Tightening torque for fixing of ECU MA = 9 ± 1.5 Nm. 8. Connect the two wiring harness connectors to the Airbag ECU. Please ensure the correct fitment of the wiring harness connectors connected to chamber A & B respectively. Please ensure the locking sound for both the Airbag ECU connectors. (The operator must ensure the correct fit of the connectors (locking mechanism).) 9. The modules should have no contact to other components of the vehicle except the car body at their fixation points and foam under AB-ECU. 10. The correct placement of the modules after the screwing-on process must be checked by the operator. 11. The maximum transition impedance of grounding over lifetime (housing to chassis, connector pin to chassis) must be less than 100mΩ. 12. The correct placement of the wiring to the modules must be checked by the operator. Twisting and bending of the wiring to the modules must be avoided. 13. Do not touch the connector pins of the modules. 14. Never open housings of AB-ECU or the sensors. 15. Installation or removal of the modules is only allowed if there is no voltage applied to the system (the wiring harness / connectors must not be connected to the modules). 16. It is not allowed to plug or unplug the ECU while supply voltage is applied to the connector and wiring harness. Battery Negative terminal should be removed. 17. Removal Sequence for Airbag ECU from vehicle a. Disconnect all kind of power supplies. b. Disconnection of wire harness c. Disassembly of AB ECU Exchange & Repair of AB-ECU or sensors 1. Any repair of the AB-ECU or sensors is prohibited generally. 2. Replacement of the product may only be performed by authorized/trained personnel. 3. Sensors that are marked as faulty (defect, sensor plausibility) in the fault memory of the AB-ECU have to be exchanged. This will assure that faulty sensors that can be detected sporadically only, are not used any more.
