PROPELLER SHAFT 7 PROPELLER SHAFT 4.4.2 MAINTENANCE, INSPECTION AND TESTS 4.4.2.1 PRELIMINARY INSPECTION  All “U” joint should be inspected for leakage and damage each time the vehicle is serviced. If seal leakage or damage exists, the “U” joint should be replaced.  Check the run out of propeller shaft.  Check “U” joint strap bolts are tightened or loosened.  Check propeller shaft centre bearing mounting bolts are tightened or loosened.  Check slip splines is properly lubricated or not.  Check output and input end yokes for looseness. If found loose, disconnect the propeller shaft, check the condition of splines of the end yoke and re-torque the end yoke retaining nut to specification, using a new nut. NOTE For end yoke tightening torque procedure refer the aggregate section on which the end yoke is fitted like gearbox, rear axle, etc. 4.4.2.2 REGULAR MAINTENANCE A. GREASING LUBRICATION FOR SLIP SPLINES 1. Apply grease using a grease gun on the nipple until lubricant appears at the pressure relief hole. 2. Cover the pressure relief hole with a finger and continue to pump grease into the nipple until grease appears at the slip joint end. LUBRICATION FOR CENTRE BEARING Centre bearing is packed with grease for life. Hence no additional lubrication is required.
