BRAKES

MAJOR OVERHAUL

It is essential that the shoe linings are inspected

at regular intervals to prevent the drums being

permanently damaged and subsequently making

drum removal extremely difficult.

1. Choke the front wheels, release the hand

brake and jack up the rear wheels. Support

the rear axle with horse stands.

2. Slacken off the hand brake cable.

3. Remove the wheel.

4. Now take out the drum. If the drum is not

coming out easily, use the M8x1.25 bolts, 2 nos.

Screw the bolts in the tapped holes provided on

the drum’s wheel mounting face. First fit the both

bolts in the drum till it reaches to hub face (8mm

approx.). Then screw the both bolts

simultaneously, so that drum will come out slowly.

Do it till drum fully came out from brake.

5. After removing the drum & servicing the brake,

the hand brake lever stopper to be reset on the

trailing shoe web and the hand brake cable to be

adjusted.

DRUM INSPECTION

Inspect the drum for cleanliness. Check for crack,

scores etc. Check braking surface for wear by

measuring the inside dia.

Drum to be discarded if found cracked scored

excessively or grooved. Do not weld a cracked

drum. It is unsafe and must be replaced.

Smoothen up any slight scores. Heavy or

extensive scoring will cause excessive brake

lining wear and it will be necessary to replace with

new one.
