or mild steel, nylon, plastic etc. After the

module assembly is removed from bench vise,

the constituent components could be scrapped

as per the guidelines/laws for non-hazardous

waste materials.

5. SRS POST ACCIDENT PROCEDURE:

A. The complete airbag system consists of

following components. Those cannot be

serviced/repaired, hence should be replaced

in case of any damage/deployment

irrespective of ‘if found ok’.

a) Driver airbag

b) Passenger airbag

c) Seat belt assembly

d) Front impact sensors

e) Side impact sensors

f) Side airbags

g) Side Curtain airbags (Inflatable Curtains)

h) Wiring harnesses

i) SRS ECU

j) Clock spring

k) Passenger airbag deactivation switch

B. If Frontal Airbags, seat belt pretensioners

are deployed during collision, following

components must be replaced irrespective

of ‘if found ok’.

a) Driver airbag

b) Passenger airbag

c) Front Seat belt assembly RH & LH

d) Front impact sensors -LH & RH

e) Cockpit (with PAB provision & wiring

harness)

f) Wiring harness

g) SRS ECU

h) Clock spring

C. If Side Airbags, curtain airbags are deployed

during collision, following components must

be replaced

irrespective of ‘if found ok’

.

a) Deployed Side airbag(s)

b) Deployed Curtain Airbag(s)

c) Front Seat belt assembly for the side(s)

that deployed

d) Side impact sensor(s) for the side that

deployed

e) SRS ECU

f) Wiring harness

D. In case of Curtain Airbag deployment

following components also needs to be

replaced.

a) Roof trim

b) A –pillar trim

c) B – pillar upper and lower trims

d) C – pillar trim

e) Rear grab handle

f) Front grab handle

g) All related trim clips

h) Sun visor

E.

After any type of vehicle accident, thoroughly

inspect all the airbag system components for

any damage or deformation. Replace

components as required. Thorough inspection

of their mounting locations is also strongly

recommended after any accident.

F.

If any damage or deformation is observed on

any airbag system components, these

components

MUST be replaced

even if they

are not deployed/ fired in the accident and are

showing healthy status when checked.

G.

Special attention should be paid to mounting

surfaces and mounting brackets mainly for SRS

ECU, Front impact sensors and Side impact

sensors as they are extremely critical for

performance of the system. If these cannot be

repaired to their original condition, the original

panel(s)

MUST be replaced

.

H.

In case of damage to SRS wiring

harness/wires, they must not be repaired but

replaced.

I.

If steering wheel and steering column are

deformed or if the steering column is collapsed

in an accident replace these components.

J.

The accident Vehicle should be inspected to

identify component deformation or structural

deformations, damages for repair or

replacement. e.g. Vehicle front, side, rear

structure, seats, underbody components etc.

K.

Check for DTC’s using diagnostic tool and

troubleshoot to clear all the DTC’s detected.

WARNING

‘If the SRS warning indicator in the instrument

cluster illuminates continuously, it means there

is a malfunction in the system, vehicle needs to

be diagnosed then take the vehicle to nearest

TATA Authorized Ser-vice Center’.
