NOISY OPERATION

Transmission noise is most often a result of:

Worn or damaged internal components.

Chipped, broken gear or synchronizer teeth, and brinnelled, spalled bearings.

Insufficient lubricant.

Aftermarket additives can damage synchronizers.

NOISE WHEN LAUNCHING

1. While operating the vehicle, a noise that varies in intensity with engine speed is heard when releasing the

clutch after a shift.

Inspect the differential

gears for wear, damage

or excessive clearance.

Confirm that the ring

gear bolts are tight.

NOISE IN NEUTRAL

With the vehicle stationary, transmission in neutral, engine running, there is a noise at high frequency and

low intensity in the transmission area.

Visually check if the noi

se is accompanied by

an oil leak from the

gearbox / differential.

Depress the clutch

pedal and see if the

noise increases.

Check the oil level in the

gearbox /differential.

Clutch depressed the

noise disappears or

diminishes:

internal

transmission noise.

Oil level too low.

Repair leak and fill

transmission to proper

fluid level.

Remove transmission

and replace damaged

components.

Correct the transmission

oil level and perform a

road test

SPLINES

EVERYTHING OK

RESOLUTION

Check for the presence

of excess lubricant in

the splines of the clutch

disc and transmission

input shaft.

Worn or damaged splines

in the clutch disc.

Replace

the

transmission input shaft.

Properly lubricate the

bushings clutch disc
