11.13 SYSTEM CHARGING & EVACUATION

Use (RRU) for charging.

1. Use vacuum pump and gauge manifold for

evacuation and the following equipment is

required for system charging.

2. The refrigerant calibration charging cylinder or

3. Weighing device.

3. Pressure gauges and hoses.

4. Electronic leak detector

CAUTION

:

The wearing of safety goggles and gloves is

mandatory during system charging or discharging.

NOTE:

All hoses at point of connection to the system must

have isolation valves fitted.

Charging the system includes the following steps:-

1. Evacuation and leak test

2. Charging

3. Performance test

CHARGING THE SYSTEM

After leak check has proven the system to be

leak free, charge the proper amount of refrigerant

into system as follows :-

1. Open HIGH SIDE manifold hand valve

slowly. Fill the system with as much of the

specified charge as possible, and then close

the high side manifold hand valve.

2. Rotate the compressor by hand for 12

revolutions to ensure no liquid refrigerant is

trapped in the suction side of the compressor.

Failure to comply with this step may result in

irreversible damage to the compressor.

3. Start the engine and engage compressor

clutch and evaporator fan on high speed.

4. Set engine speed to 1500 - 1700 rpm.

5. If the system has been charged with the

specified amount (580 ± 20 gms), go to step

7.
