Removal

1. Disconnect battery and wait for 2 minutes..

2. Remove the driver air bag; disconnect the

driver air bag connector. To disconnect first we

should lift the yellow lock on connector and

then pull the connector out.

3. Disconnect the connector of steering wheel

switches and horn connections. Remove the

steering wheel nacelle and disconnect the

connector coming from vehicle level wiring

harness to clock spring.

4. Unscrew the four mounting nuts of clock spring

and take out the clock spring.

Installation

1. Assemble new clock spring on the combi

switch and break the red locking tab on the

clock spring and then assemble the steering

wheel. Please ensure that serial number of

clock spring being fitted on the vehicle is

recorded and information is sent back to the

plant for updating the vehicle record.

2. Reconnect all the connections. Make sure

that vehicle wiring harness connector in fully

inserted in to clock spring connector and

locked. Similarly insert the driver air bag

connector fully and push the yellow locking

tab.

3. Reconnect battery.

4. Check the working of horn, steering wheel

switches also ensure that air bag warning

lamp on instrument cluster goes off.

5. If air bag lamp is continuously on then

connect a diagnostic tool and see the faults.

For driver air bag we can have two faults:

a) Driver air bag resistance too low

b) Driver air bag resistance too high

For fault a) we need to ensure that vehicle wiring

harness connector is properly inserted into clock

spring connector. Clock spring connector has

internal shorting link which opens after vehicle

wiring harness connector is fully inserted and

locked. Other possibility for this fault is that cable

coming from Air bag control unit is pinched in the

vehicle.

For fault b) Ensure that driver air bag connector is

fully inserted and lock is pushed. This fault can

also come if the clock spring flexible PCB is cut

due to over strain. This can cause if the clock

spring is not properly centered (turn wise) during

fitment.
