486 PL ENGINE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (EMS)

FAULT DIAGNOSTIC BY BLINK CODE METHOD

1.

Switch on ignition. Engine check lamp should be "ON".

2.

Short pin number 4 and pin number 15 of diagnostic connector.

NOTE :

A pigtail with 2 - pin connector has been provided for shorting of terminals 4 & 15 to start the diagnostic

connecter to function.

3.

Before display of the stored faults, the check engine lamp is checked (3 seconds "on" and 2 seconds

"off")

4.

After that stored faults are displayed by check engine lamp.

5.

The longer pulses form the "tens" of the blink code and the shorter pulses form the "units" of the blink

code.

6.

The faults are displayed sequentially. After display of all faults that are stored in memory, the display is

repeated. Fault code list as per blink code is enclosed.

7.

Faults recorded are the faults present in the system as well as sporadic faults (occurred for very short

duration of time.)

8.

To screen out sporadic faults proceed as follows :

9.

Disconnect the battery negative terminal for three minutes (minimum)

10. Drive the vehicle for 2 kilometer distance. If there is any problem in the EMS system then engine check

lamp will be "ON" during the drive. If the engine check lamp is not glowing then there is no fault in the

EMS system. It means that earlier faults were sporadic faults.

11. If the engine check-lamp is "ON" during the drive, repeat the procedure as per serial number 1 to 6 and

rectify the faults.

12. Repeat the procedure as per serial number 9 to 10 to erase blink codes from ECU memory and confirm

the rectification of faults.
