TAPPET SETTING ( VALVE CLEARANCE )
Precaution:
•
Ensure that engine is in cold condition while check-
ing tappet setting on vehicle.
•
Remove cylinder head cover by unscrewing the six
hexagonal mounting bolts.
•
Ensure that Pistons are at their TDC (Top Dead
Centre) position when clearance is to be checked.
•
Check valve clearance with the help of feeler gauge
at exhaust & inlet valve, by inserting the feeler
gauge between cam lob & tappet.
NOTE
Valve clearance at Inlet valve =
0.15 mm
.
Valve clearance at Exhaust valve =
0.25 mm.
•
If the clearances are not within the permissible limit,
replace the respective shims with available sizes
as indicated in the following table .
Procedure for replacement of valve shim:
•
Remove cam shaft bearing caps (B) by unscrewing
the hexagonal mounting bolts (A).
•
Take out the cam shaft (C) from its position.
•
Take out the tappet (D) from its position.
•
Follow the following procedure for selection of shim
(E) sizes.
Valve clearance at Exhaust valve =
0.25 mm.
Valve clearance at Inlet valve =
0.15 mm
