REAR BRAKE DRUM

Removal

1 Remove wheel(s) (Refer wheel removal procedure/

Wheels and tires group)

2. Release parking brake lever.

3. Remove drum pin (spring dowel) (a) and pull off

the brake drum (b)

NOTE:

Sometimes it is difficult to pull off the brake drum

due to heavy usage of brakes. So in such cases,

push the lever (shown by arrow) with the help of suitable

tool so as to release brake drum with brake shoes.

This mechanism is called Shoe Collapsible

Mechanism.

For pushing the lever, slightly rotate the brake drum

so that lever can be visible. (To perform this action,

drum removal is not necessary).

Inspection

Inspection procedure for rear brake drum is same as

that of front brake drum.

Installation

NOTE:

Before installation of brake drum, make sure that

inside of brake drum and brake shoes are free from

dirt and oil.

1. Mount brake drum on wheel hub and tighten the

nut to specified torque.

TIGHTENINGTORQUEFORDRUMPIN (SPRING

DOWEL) = 0.6 - 0.8 Kg-m

2. After installation, depress brake pedal 3 to 5 times

so as to ensure proper clearance between brake

drum and brake shoe.

3. Check hand brake operation, adjust if necessary.

(Refer parking brake adjustment procedure)

4. Mount wheel (s) and tighten wheel mounting bolts

to specified torque.

TIGHTENING TORQUE FOR WHEEL

MOUNTING BOLTS = 8 - 8.3 Kg-m

5. Remove supports and lower vehicle.
