ENGINE 273 MPFI

ENGINE

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Exhaust system of

TATA NANO

consists of exhaust

manifold assembly, three way catalytic converter with

lambda sensor, exhaust pipes and a silencer.

All the burnt gases are expelled out through cylinder

head, exhaust manifold, catalytic converter and

silencer using exhaust pipes. As these gases consist

of harmful pollutants like carbon monoxide (CO),

nitrogen oxide (NOx), unburnt hydro carbons (HC) and

particulate matter, they need to be converted in less

harmful gases before they exhaled into the

atmosphere.

The three way catalytic converter, used inTATANANO,

lowers the level of HC, CO, and NOx from exhaust

gases with minimum loss of power, good NVH

characteristics and long life.

Hot exhaust gases from the Engine flows through

Exhaust Manifold assembly to the Three Way

Catalytic Converter . The Lambda Sensor mounted

on exhaust manifold, measures the amount of oxygen

present in exhaust gases and gives voltage signal to

ECU accordingly. ECU adjusts the amount of fuel to

be injected depending upon the received signal.

When hot exhaust gases flow through catalytic

converter, it gets converted in to less harmful gases.

This is done by the catalyst present in catalytic

converter.

The rear part of the system comprises of Silencer

assembly.
