5j.Torque on Demand (TOD)
“Torque-On-Demand (TOD) transfer case is a Single-speed, torque on demand transfer case. The
Torque-On-Demand system automatically and smoothly delivers four-wheel drive operation as
required, depending on the driving conditions through an ECU and patented modulating clutch
(Electromagnetic Clutch) It provides two operating positions i.e. 2H mode and Auto mode which
operates at 1:1 speed ratios. Power is transferred to the front wheel drive through a Morse HYVO
chain drive. The TOD receives inputs from the Engine ECU and ABS/ ESP ECU Via the high speed
CAN. Whenever any slippage is detected in the rear wheels (in icy roads, wet surfaces, etc.) the
torque is transferred to the front wheels by the TOD. An Electromagnetic Clutch is used to control the
amount of torque applied to the front propeller shaft. AMomentary switch is provided to activate the
TOD.This system is fully compatible with ABS/ESP System.
Salient Features
The Diagnostic Tester software for TOD is capable to communicate with ECU in the vehicle through
Serial K-Line Interface. The tester application executes all the commands supported by TOD ECU,
which helps in diagnosis of TOD ECU.
Following services are provided by the Diagnostic Tester application:
1. ECU Identification Data
2. Read ECU Parameter
3. Read DTC’s
4. Input/Output
5. Vehicle Parameter
ECU Identification Data
This service displays ECU related data such as Hardware ID, Software ID and Manufacturing Infor-
mation etc.
