FATC 19 12. FATC SENSORS AND ACTUATORS A. EVAPORATER SENSOR It is a temperature-sensing device, which is positioned at the coldest point of the evaporator (as shown in the fig below). The control unit switches OFF the compressor at a temperature when condensed water tends to form ice on the fins of evaporator. Thus it maintains the evaporator temperature within a specified range. PIN OUT PIN DETAILS PIN NO DESCRIPTION 01 Temperature out to control panel 02 Ground LOCATION: It is mounted on Air intake / Evaporator housing assembly. B. ON VEHICLE INSPECTION (WITHOUT DISMANTLING HVAC UNIT) Alternatively, following test can be conducted without dismantling the HVAC unit: 1. Switch OFF the HVAC unit and allow the HVAC unit to come to ambient temperature. 2. Open the glow box & lowering Glove box lid. 3. Disconnect the Pigtail connection. 4. Measure the resistance it should match to the ambient temperature. Refer graph in Inspection topic. As given in the graph above (~ 5 Ohms or less for ambient temperature of 25ºC and above)
