6. GENERAL INTRODUCTION TO DCT A. TRANSMISSION DIAGRAM AND TERMINOLOGY B. BASIC PRINCIPLES OF THE DT1 DOUBLE CLUTCH TRANSMISSIONS The DT1 transmission will be able to shift sequentially through the gears, by performing a combination of “clutch actuation” and “gear actuation”. This combination results in a 7-speed gear combination in drive and 1 reverse gear. CLUTCH ACTUATION I. With “Clutch actuation”, and the combination with a planetary gearset, it is possible to achieve 2 different gear ratios, by actuation the 2 available clutches inside the transmission. When pressurizing Clutch 2 (“clutch”) the torque will be transferred with a direct 1/1 ratio from the input shaft towards the “inner primary shaft” of the transmissions. When presurizing clutch 1 (“brake”), an additional speed reduction will take place. In that case torque will be transferred from the input shaft to the outer primary shaft of the transmission with a torque increase ratio from 1.38:1. Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) 15
