SPARK PLUG REPLACEMENT : IV. Description : • Engine spark plugs are an integral part of engine performance and fuel economy. Worn, damaged, or spark plugs with excessive carbon buildup may cause the engine not to start, misfire, or cause poor fuel economy. Replace the spark plugs as a set every 30,000 km or sooner as needed using the part numbers and gap setting in Table. Removal : • 1. Park the vehicle on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and raise the hood. 2. Clean any dirt and debris from around the spark plugs and spark plug ignition coils. 3. Disconnect electrical connection and remove ignition coil. 4. Disconnect the spark plug high tension cable from the spark plug by firmly gripping the boot and pulling. 5. Use M16 Socket to remove the spark plug from the cylinder head. Installation: 1. If reusing the spark plugs, clean using a brush and a solvent prior to installation. 2. Verify the electrode gap is between 0.8 to 0.9 mm. Adjust the gap necessary. 3. Carefully hand-thread the spark plug into the cylinder head. Do not cross-thread the spark plug into the cylinder head. 4. Once the spark plug has seated, use the M16 socket to torque the spark plug to 2 -2.5 kgfm. 5. Connect the correct spark ignition coils to the spark plug. Verify the cable terminal makes a firm connection with the top of the spark plug. 6. Repeat the procedure for the remaining spark plugs.
