BRAKE 17 B. REAR BRAKE MAINTENANCE 1. BRAKE PAD REPLACEMENT For maintenance and diagnostic work on the electronic parking brake, an electronic diagnostic instrument must be available that can be connected to the vehicle via the On-Board- Diagnosis (OBD). Before replacement of the brake pads, the system must be brought into the maintenance mode “Pad changing” with the help of a diagnostic device. In this maintenance mode, the controller rotates the spindle (Fig. 1) so that the nut is driven back to its starting position (Fig. 2). 1. Use the diagnostic tool to move the nut to the starting position. 2. Launch the pad change sequence of the EPB system by calling the “Enter maintenance mode” service via the diagnostic tool. 3. Remove the rear wheel and tire. 4. Disconnect the EPB actuator connector (A). 5. Remove the caliper body (A) after loosening the guide rod bolts(B). 6. Remove the brake pads & pad springs from the caliper carrier and install the new pad springs (A) & brake pads (B). 7. Rotate the caliper piston and push the direction of the arrow.
