INSPECTION OF CALIPER II. Clean all parts thoroughly with fresh brake fluid. Please do not use mineral oil like kerosene, petrol, diesel etc. After thoroughly cleaning, examine all parts for damages and corrosion. PISTON 1. Outer surface should be free from nicks, score or rust and should feel smooth to touch. Do not use emery paper on piston surface. SEAL PISTON 2. Seal piston is used to piston and cylinder and used to adjust the clearance between pad and disc. Replace with a new seal piston at every overhaul. Fit seal piston ring into groove of the cylinder taking care that it should not be twisted. Refer exploded views of front Caliper Assembly. CALIPER HOUSING 3. Bore should be free from score, pitting, and corrosion. The seal groove in the bore should be thoroughly cleaned and no nicks should be there at the edges. If the above conditions are quite satisfactory then replacement with appropriate kit will give satisfactory performance. If not the caliper assembly should be replaced. ASSEMBLY GUIDE ROD 4. Guide rod should be free from rust and bends and boot guide rod should be soft and free from cracks or puncture. If in doubt, replace them. Check the Sliding pin grease and replace it at specified interval. DISC INSPECTION III. The disc should be free from score marks. If scored, it should be ground and refitted. Do not grind the disc more than 0.25mm per side. If the total thickness of the disc after grinding is found to be less than disc discard thickness of 18 mm in petrol vehicles and 20mm in diesel and petrol DCT vehicle, the disc should be changed. The disc thickness variation is to be checked by measuring the thickness of the rotor at four or more points around the circumference of the rotor. All measurements must be made at the same distance from the edge of the rotor. After fitment, the face runout of the disc should be less than 0.03 mm. During measurement, confirm the dial gauge probe should be approx. 10 mm from the outer edge of the brake rotor, perpendicular to the disc and under slight preload. BRAKES 25
