1.2L REVOTRON Bi FUEL CNG ENGINE 55 IV. Spark Plug Replacement : Description : Engine spark plugs are an integral part of engine performance and fuel economy. Worn, damaged, or spark plugs with excessive carbon buildup may cause the engine not to start, misfire, or cause poor fuel economy. Replace the spark plugs as a set every 30,000 km or sooner as needed using the part numbers and gap setting in Table. Spark Plug Part No. Gap Setting (mm) FM : RER8MC 0.8 - 0.9 Removal : 1. Park the vehicle on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and raise the hood. 2. Clean any dirt and debris from around the spark plugs and spark plug ignition coils. NOTE To avoid confusion, remove and replace one spark plug at a time. 3. Disconnect the spark plug high tension cable from the spark plug by firmly gripping the boot and pulling. 4. Use M16 Socket to remove the spark plug from the cylinder head. Installation: 1. If reusing the spark plugs, clean using a brush and a solvent prior to installation. 2. Verify the electrode gap is between 0.8 to 0.9 mm. Adjust the gap necessary. 3. Carefully hand-thread the spark plug into the cylinder head. Do not cross-thread the spark plug into the cylinder head. 4. Once the spark plug has seated, use the M16 socket to torque the spark plug to 2 -2.5 kgfm. Spark Plug Part No. Gap Setting (mm) FM : RER8MC 0.8 - 0.9 5. Connect the correct spark ignition coils to the spark plug. Verify the cable terminal makes a firm connection with the top of the spark plug. 6. Repeat the procedure for the remaining spark plugs. Inspection: The condition of the spark plug provides a good indication of the engine running condition. Knowing what to look for can provide insight to operating conditions and help to pinpoint problems with operation. "Read" the spark plug to determine engine operating condition. 1. Normal - The spark plug core will be lightly coated with grey or brown deposits. Heavy deposits indicate the use of fuel or oil additives. The electrode will not be worn excessively or nicked. The gap will only increase 0.01 mm for every 2000 km of use with the correct fuel. Clean and reuse if replacement is not required. 2. Carbon Fouling - Dark sooty deposits will be present on the entire spark plug. This may cause the electrode to short-circuit, weakening or eliminating spark. Typically
