61 4 DLT ENGINE VALVE CLEARANCE VALVE CLEARANCES SHOULD BE CHECKED ONLY WHEN ENGINE IS COLD. Turn cam shaft with spanner, 2654 5890 05 01 and check valve clearances. Refer Fig. 111. Adjust as given below: Note respective valve clearances. Calculate correct sizes of shims (The shims are available in thickness 2.400 to 3.560 mm in steps of 0.050 mm) to get specified valve clearances as shown in following table. CALCULATION INLET EXHAUST Specified 0.150+0.04 0.300+0.04 Measured 0.250 0.200 Difference + 0.100 - 0.100 Existing shim thickness 2.800 3.050 Shim thickness required 2.900 2.950 Smear moly paste on both sides of shims. Install all eight correctly determined size shims in their respective positions. Recheck valve clearance and if incorrect repeat above procedure. Remove camshaft gear.
