SUPPLEMENTARY RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) 22 5. Carefully take out DAB. WARNING: Before removing steering wheel make alignment marks on the steering wheel and the shaft for guiding during reinstallation. NOTE After fitment connect the diagnostic tool and clear all fault codes if any.  PASSENGER AIRBAG (PAB) The passenger airbag module is located below the dashboard; above the glove box and its functioning is controlled by the SRS ECU. A bag within the module inflates to protect the passenger in the event of a collision severe enough to deploy the system. Within the passenger airbag module is a squib which, when given the correct current by the SRS ECU, inflates the airbag by initiating a chemical reaction. In deployment, the airbag inflates within a fraction of a second and then deflates at a controlled rate as the passenger body regions; typically head and chest interact with airbag. Vents in the airbag control its deflation. The SRS ECU regularly applies a test current to the passenger airbag squib to confirm continuity of the ignition circuitry. ON VEHICLE SERVICE REMOVAL 1. Disconnect the battery connections. 2. Remove the top utility bin. (For procedure refer top utility bin removal in CAB section.) 3. Loosen and remove the mounting nuts which hold the air bag bracket with the cross car beam. 4. Loosen and remove two mounting nuts from the rear side which holds the air bag bracket with the PAB module. 5. Remove the air bag bracket. 6. Disconnect the electrical connector from the PAB module.
