52 ENGINE 273 MPFI FEATURES OF 273 MPFI ENGINE TATA 273 MPFI engine uses BOSCH Multipoint fuel injection system. Various sensors located at various points in the engine, sense important parameters of the engine operation & send signals to a ECU located in engine compartment. Based on predetermined engine mapping, the ECU precisely controls the fuel delivery injection timing to ensure optimum fuel utilization with minimum emission. TATA273 MPFI engine has following features: Cranking Mode: • Better Engine Performance Optimum fuel quantity and Spark timing is calculated by ECU for any operating condition. • Better Cold Starting and Warm up ECU identifies cranking condition and quick starting is ensured by providing sufficient fuel quantity and optimum spark timing. For quicker warm up, idling speed is increased as a function of Water and Air temperature inputs to the ECU. • Good Startability due to Reduced Engine Load ECU identifies cranking mode & switches ‘OFF’ the A/C relay & CPV (Canister Purge Valve). Idling Mode: • Better Idling Stability ECU receives inputs from Water Temp., Engine Load, Battery Voltage, Manifold Vaccum & Engine Speed by closed loop control which facilitate ECU to achieve better idle speed stability. • Better Idling Stability whenever idle state changes ISC Valve position (steps) is continuously memorized & renewed in memory. • ’LIMP HOME’ Idle Speed Vehicle Downtime/Breakdown ProtectionAgainst failure of following Sensor is achieved by ’LIMP HOME’ Idle Speed feature. 1.Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) 2.T-MAP Sensor 3.Vehicle Speed Sensor 4.Water Temp. Sensor Engine Stall Protection: When engine RPM is low, ECU cuts A/C relay which faci l itate better idle stabi l ity & user convenience. Acceleration Mode: • High Engine Speed Control Fuel is cut beyond 5600 rpm to avoid adverse effect on engine safety. • High Vehicle Speed Control Fuel is cut beyond 105 kmph to avoid adverse effect on vehicle safety. • Variable Acceleration Enrichment Transient condition is identified and suitable fuel enrichment is provided. • Emission The petrol injection engine has low emissions because the air fuel ratio is control led to stoichiometric using lambda sensor. Faster warm up from cold start ensures early operation of catalytic converter in turn reducing the emission. • Fuel Economy The 273 MPFI engine has a better fuel economy because the engine is optimized at each operating point, discretely. • Quick Response The 273 MPFI engine will have a better driveability and better acceleration since the fuel delivery and spark timing are controlled by ECU, which quickly responds to engine/Driver demands.
