36 PRECAUTIONS FLAMMABLEMATERIALS WARNING: Fuel and fuel vapors are extremely flammable! Use extreme caution when working with fuel, otherwise a fire or explosion may occur, causing severe personal injury or death. CAUTION: Petrol and Diesel fuels are irritants, Wash hands thoroughly and immediately after handling fuel. Exposure to flammable materials such as petrol and diesel fuel is possible when performing vehicle service. The list below provides points to follow when working with flammable materials: • Minimize skin contact with any flammable materials. • Properly ventilate the area so that the flammable fumes do not become concentrated. • Never smoke or have an open flame in the work area. • Always check for leaks after fuel system repairs. • Clean up fuel spills with absorbent material immediately, using proper disposal procedures. CAUTION: Do not reverse the negative (-) and positive (+) battery cable connections; serious damage to the vehicle electrical system will result. ELECTRICAL SYSTEMPRECAUTIONS WARNING: • Keep all open flames and sparks away from the battery! During normal operation, batteries generate dangerous explosive gases that may explode if exposed to open flames or sparks. • Battery electrolyte is harmful and will cause chemical burns and damage to vehicle surfaces. Wear a protective face shield /clothing and take care when working with the battery. When working with the vehicle electronic components, observe the following points: Always disconnect the negative (-) battery cable, unless battery voltage is required to perform the diagnosis or repair. Always disconnect the negative (-) battery cable, before disconnecting (+) cable. While reinstalling the battery, first connect the positive (+) cable and then the negative (-) battery cable. Before disconnecting any components, make sure the negative battery cable is disconnected or the ignition switch is rotated to the “OFF” position.
