DRIVETRAIN 327 DRIVETRAIN Complaint Component Causes Remedy 10. Harsh Noise on Declutching A harsh whistling noise can be heard either on declutching or all the time. It varies according to the pressure applied to the pedal. The movement of the release bearing is hard when rotated by hand. The bearing has seized or was noisy from the start. Or the bear ing has overheated, burning off the grease caused by incorrect pre-load. Systematically check the clutch cable, linkages, joints fork bearings, preload spring. 11. Permanent Loud Noise Permanent loud noise. The levers are badly damaged and the release bear ing has seized. Incorrect clutch adjustment causing bearing failure. Regular ly check the clutch adjustment . Always refer to manual for correct method of clutch adjustment. 12. Slipping and Juddering. The clutch sl ips and eventually judders. The pressure plate burn marks. Driver resting foot on pedals. Incorrect clutch adjustment. Regularly correct clutch adjustment. Always refer to the vehicle workshop manual for correct method of clutch. Educate the driver , to use clutch pedal only while changing gears & avoid resting feet on it. 13. Juddering After Replacing the Clutch The clutch judders after installation of new clutch. Circular grooves can be seen on the fr ict ion material on the flywheel side. The clutch has been replaced when the f lywheel has been previously scored. Systemically check the condition of the fly wheel. Skimming of flywheel may be needed. 14. Pedal Stiff Stiff pedal with the risk of prolonged slipping even after releasing clutch pedal. The guide tube is corroded and worn. Clutch wear is abnormal taking into account the amount of mileage. The release bearing jams on the guide. If there are any signs of irregular wear, replace guide tube.
