STEERING 17 3.2 PRECAUTIONS The following general precautions to be followed during servicing and during overhauling of rack and pinion assembly: Plug the ports tight with protective caps in the steering gear. Use only special tools and do not hammer to re-move components from steering gear. Do not attempt to weld any broken steering component. Replace the component with the original equipment. 3.3 DISMANTLING, INSPECTION AND ASSEMBLY 3.3.1 DISASSEMBLY OF RACK & PINON 1. Hold the Steering Gear on a soft jaw vice. 2. Remove lock nut and remove both the Outer Ball Joints from the steering gear. 3. Take out outer ball joint assembly. 4. Remove the bellow clips on either side using the plier and dispose them. 5. Remove the Bellow strap and dispose them. 6. Remove the Bellows on both side and dispose. 7. Loosen the Inner Ball Joints from the Rack by arresting the Rack with TBD double end spanner. (Rack should not twist while loosening inner ball joint).
