SUPPLEMENTARY RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) 22 RETRACTOR PRE-TENSIONER LOAD LIMITER (RPLL) (CO-DRIVER SIDE) In high speed frontal crashes, passenger moves forward due to inertia at a very high speed. If the seat belt gets locked during such crashes it may cause injuries to the passenger as he is forcibly held by the seatbelt against the inertia force. Load limiters are provided to limit the seat belt loads to a pre-defined value. Load limiters are to be used only in airbag equipped vehicles. The load limiter fitted inside the retractor unit is basically a torsion bar. Whenever the belt load increases beyond the pre-defined limit, some length of the belt is released due to twisting of the torsion bar. The activation of the load limiter does not depend on signal from the ECU. The bending element absorbs energy parallel to the torsion bar thus generating a digressive load limitation pattern. The load from the digressive components are additive to the load from the torsion bar. When the digressive feature runs out, the load left is the torsion bar load. ON VEHICLE REPAIR WARNING Do not attempt to repair, open or apply power (Multimeter) to the RPLL terminals. CAUTION Disconnect the battery negative lead. REMOVAL 1. Disconnect the battery connection. 2. Fold the front row seat. 3. Remove lower “B” pillar trim. (For procedure, refer Body section). 4. Open the top mounting bolts cap.
