C0040 – 12 : Brake Pedal Switch – Circuit short to Battery Overview: ISO Code (DTC Code) C0040 - 12 Customer Symptom 1. Brake lamps always ON Fault Effects (On Vehicle) 1. Brake lamps always ON 2. Battery Drain Lamp Status (If Any) Always ON Fault Detection Condition This fault will be logged after the input switch test routine execution. User has to operate the switch manually during routine. If short to battery fault is detected for Brake lamp selection switch then this DTC code will be returned with the Routine results. Normal Operating Condition There should not be any fault returned by routine Probable Trouble Area 1. BCM connector Fault 2. Cockpit harness Short to battery 3. Switch damaged or stuck 4. BCM ECU fault 5. Brake selection switch side connector fault. Healing Condition 1. Ignition OFF  ON 2. Clear DTC Command Component Details: Brake Pedal Switch is operate manually. If the IGN is KeyIN/ Accessory/Keyout/ON/Run and user presses the Brake, Brake lamps will be turned ON. Preliminary Checks: 1. Check Battery Voltage (9V-16V) 2. Check ECU pins for oxidation, bending & damage.
