Flow Chart: P0342-11: Camshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit Low Bank 1- Circuit Short to Ground Overview: ISO Code P0342-11 Customer Symptom MIL will be ON Fault Effects (On Vehicle) If error occurs in Idle-vehicle will continue to run If error occurs during driving-vehicle will continue to run without any restrictions If error occurs before starting-vehicle will start with more start time Lamp Status (If Any) MIL ON after 3 drive cycle Fault Detection Condition This fault gets logged when Camshaft Position sensor-Circuit Short to Ground Normal Operating Condition Healthy Wiring Harness connections between and EMS ECU Probable Trouble Area Wiring Harness Connections, Sensor Healing Condition After 3 drive cycles Fault permanent deletion 1. Scan tool Service 14. 2. Stack Over Flow. 3. 40 warm up cycles. 4. ECU Flashing. 5. ECU power fail Component Details: A typical Hall Effect Sensor has three wires or terminals: one for ground, one for supply or reference voltage and one for the output signal. To produce an output signal, a Hall Effect Sensor must be supplied with a reference voltage. When a metal/wheel passes through the air gap between the magnetic field (Magnet) and silicon chip (CAM Sensor), it blocks the magnetic field and causes the chip’s output voltage to suddenly drop to zero else the chip's output voltage is 4.7 Volts. Preliminary Checks: 1. Loose/ Damaged Connections between Sensor and EMS ecu. 2. Check for back out of pins at both Sensor connector and ECU connector. 3. Check for damage of pins at both Sensor connector and ECU connector. 4. Check the continuity from Sensor connector pins to the ECU pins. 5. Physical damage to Cam target wheel. 6. Improper Air Gap between Sensor and Cam target wheel.
