STEERING 25 4. TROUBLESHOOTING AND DIAGNOSIS Since the problems in steering, suspension, wheels and tyres involves several symptoms which are probably interlinked so they must all be considered while diagnosing a complaint. Before coming to any conclusion or to avoid using of wrong symptoms, always road test the vehicle first. Do some preliminary visual inspection and correct any defects if found. Steering system, wheel & tyres, suspension, underbody(Sub frame with lower arm & knuckle joint), MRP, stabilizer bar & all torqueing points delivers issues if abnormality in any system which are interlinked for causes in vehicle driving & static condition. 1. Check the tire pressures and inspect tire wear. 2. Ensuring all the parameter of the respective system before replacing or repairing any parts. 3. Before replacing or repairing the parts check all the basic visual inspection. 4. Raise the vehicle on hoist and inspect front and rear suspension for loose or damaged parts. 5. Inspect out of round tyres, bent wheel rims, out of balance wheel, loosen and/or rough wheel bearings. A. GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING Concern Cause Remedy Vehicle pulling one side 1. Abnormal tyre wear / mismatched tyre 2. .Cracked / Broken or Sagging springs 3. Improper tire inflation 4. Wheel alignment issue. 5. Improper toe 6. MRP tie rod bend / damage. 7. Brake dragging in one road wheel 8. C-EPS steering calibration issue. 1. Ensure no abnormal wear & Match tyres properly. 2. Replace spring 3. Adjust and correct tire pressure 4. Make wheel alignment. 5. Check and adjust toe 6. Ensure free from tie rod bend /damage. 7. Repair brake system 8. Proceed for C-EPS steering calibration. 9. Ensure steering wheel at center position. 10. -For best result do calibration immediately after wheel alignment by not disturbing steering wheel center position. Unusual excessive tyre wear 1. Improper toe 2. Vehicle over loaded 3. Loose or worn out wheel bearing 4. Tire inflation not proper 5. Brake dragging 1. Check and adjust toe 2. Check loading 3. Replace wheel bearing 4. Adjust and correct tyre pressure 5. Adjust brakes Vehicle shaking, shimmy or vibrations 1. Wheels out of balance 2. Loose wheel bearings 3. Worn out tie rod ball joints 4. Worn out lower ball joints 5. Excessive wheel run out 6. Disturbed toe 7. Loose or worn steering linkage 8. Improperly mounted tyre or wheel 9. Excessively or unevenly worn tyres 1. Balance wheels or replace tyre or wheel 2. Replace wheel bearings 3. Replace tie rod ball joints 4. Replace ball joint or lower link at front 5. Repair / replace wheel or tyre 6. Check and adjust toe 7. Replace steering linkages 8. Inspect and mount wheel or tyre as per specifications 9. Refer remedies of unusual excessive tyre wear
