SAFARI BSVI - SERVICE MANUAL
BRAKES (Non EPB) 31 2. To fit new pads into the caliper, screw back the piston into caliper housing with spanner equipped with two pins and a device to lock against caliper finger. NOTE Use appropriate screwing device from tool kit. RH for RH side caliper & LH for LH side caliper. To screw back piston, screw rotation direction must be as same as caliper lever rotation direction. When pushing back piston, check that piston boot returns to its housing without deformation and without overhanging of the piston face. This could result in boot cut by pads at caliper assembly, or boot burning by contact with hot pads during service. Nevertheless, an angle adjustment is allowed in order to make sure that the two piston face grooves are aligned with the caliper reference. This, in order to facilitate caliper reassembly. After bottoming the piston, rotate piston with help of tool with attaching spanner to match grooves with the caliper reference. CAUTION: The inboard pads are provide with wear indicator assembly. Since the inboard pad and shims are not inter-changeable. Do not polish the pads with sand or emery paper as hard particles of sand or emery paper will deposit on pad and may damage disc. Do not contaminate pad surface with oil or grease. Always use genuine recommended pads for replacement. Brake pads have to be replace in sets only. If brake pads on left side are replace brake pads on right side should also be replaced. 3. Inspect and clean the brake disc. 4. Replace the sliders. 5. Replace the old pads with new one. CAUTION: Check that pins at the back of inner pads are placed inside piston face grooves. 6. Caliper closing. 7. Connect brake hose and parking brake cables. FITMENT For fitment, follow the reverse procedure of removal. NOTE: Apply brake pedal couple of times with the engine started before taking the vehicle for a road test. Before applying an emergency brake, it is advisable to apply the brake gently several times at 50 Km per hour to allow the brake pads align. Heavy braking or prolonged braking should be avoided in the initial 100-150 km. of run until the new pads are bedded. Caliper Reference Piston grooves
