C635 TRANSAXLE 5 NOISY OPERATION Transmission noise is most often a result of: Worn or damaged internal components. Chipped, broken gear or synchronizer teeth, and brinnelled, spalled bearings. Insufficient lubricant. Aftermarket additives can damage synchronizers. NOISE WHEN LAUNCHING 1. While operating the vehicle, a noise that varies in intensity with engine speed is heard when releasing the clutch after a shift. CHECK DIFFERENTIAL EVERYTHING OK PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED RESOLUTION Inspect the differential gears for wear, damage or excessive clearance. Confirm that the ring gear bolts are tight. Continue to Step 2 Worn or damaged differential components Repair or replace components as necessary. 2. CHECK DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING EVERYTHING OK PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED RESOLUTION Inspect the differential gears for wear, damage or excessive clearance. Confirm that the ring gear bolts are tight. End diagnosis Worn or damaged differential components Repair or replace components as necessary. NOISE IN NEUTRAL With the vehicle stationary, transmission in neutral, engine running, there is a noise at high frequency and low intensity in the transmission area. 1. PRILIMINARY CHECKS EVERYTHING OK PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED RESOLUTION Visually check if the noi se is accompanied by an oil leak from the gearbox / differential. Depress the clutch pedal and see if the noise increases. Check the oil level in the gearbox /differential. Continue to Step 2 Oil leak from the gearbox Clutch depressed the noise disappears or diminishes: internal transmission noise. Oil level too low. Repair leak and fill transmission to proper fluid level. Remove transmission and replace damaged components. Correct the transmission oil level and perform a road test
