STEERING 29 1.4 OVERHAULING : A. PRECAUTIONS : The following general precautions to be followed during servicing and during overhauling of rack and pinion assembly:  Plug the ports tight with protective caps in the steering gear.  Take care to avoid damages to bellows, feed pipes, and input shaft while removing the RAP assembly from the vehicle.  Use only special tools and do not hammer to remove components from steering gear.  Do not attempt to weld any broken steering components. Replace the components with the original equipment.  Always clean off around the reservoir filler cap before its removal to prevent entry of dirt particles and foreign material into the hydraulic system.
