36 REAR AXLE INSTALLING COVER PLATE ON CARRIER The cover face of the carrier and the flat surface of the cover plate must be free of any oil film or foreign material. Apply sealer to cover place surface. Ensure that the sealer bead is on the inside of the cover screw holes. Fig. 72 The bead must be 3 to 6 mm high and 3 to 6 mm wide. Install to cover screws into cover at 8-'O’clock and 2-'O’clock positions. Use the two holes to guide cover plate into position on the carrier. Install remaining screws. Fig. 73 Tightening alternately and evenly. Torque screws to 38-45 Nm. Allow one hour cure time before vehicle operation. Installation Install the axle in reverse order of steps of removal of axle from vehicle. Fill specified quantity of oil. Use drive square for drain plug. Pt. no. 2654 5890 3524. to tighten the drain plug to specified torque. Assemble brake drum and put wheels.Tighten wheel nuts to specified torque. CONTOUROF BEAD Fig. 72 Fig. 73
