29 FRONT AXLE - 4 X 4 PINION POSITION SHIM SELECTION Install height setting gauge master block Pt. no. 2704 5890 3317 over the inner bearing cup seat. Install dial gauge on Pinion height setting gauge Pt. no. 2704 5890 3313. Set the dial gauge to 0 (zero), on a surface plate at highest point. Install special tool depth gauge on differential side bearing housing. Install dial gauge, such that the plunger is in contact with pinion master. Rock the special tool depth gauge. Record only the reading when the indicator is at the highest point. Let it be 'x' Fig. 43 To calculate the shim thickness proceed as follows.
