SAFARI

ENGINE 132 1 Air Filter 2 Air Filter mounting bracket 1 2 AIR INTAKE SYSTEM Air filter and air Intake system Air filter Dry type Air filter of higher capacity 7 m 3 /min air filter for higher air mass flow due to turbocharger and higher dust holding capacity. Initial restriction 180 mm of H20. General Air filter serves to filter dust from intake air for the engine. The air filter on the Safari DICOR is dry type. This also serves to dampen intake air noise. In addition to dust separation, the filter has a high dust holding capacity. Operation In dry type air filter the air flows into air filter chamber due to suction pressure. The dust is separated by the filter cartridge and clean and dust free air is sucked in the engine. Maintenance A service indicator is fitted on the filter outlet which indicates high pressure drop due to dust accumulation. This indicator is to be checked during servicing after specified kms. If the red band appears then the cartridge should be cleaned with pressurized air. The cartridge to be replaced after specified kms. Choked air filter cartridge causes 1. Increased wear of piston and cylinder bore. 2. Loss of power and pickup. 3. Increased fuel consumption. 4. High smoke. The cartridge to be replaced in above mentioned conditions. Removal 1. Loosen hose clips and remove hose (air filter to turbocharger). 2. Plug the pipe to turbocharger to avoid entry of foreign objects in the pipe. Any foreign material can seriously damage the turbocharger leading to its replacement. 3. Unscrew strap clamp nuts holding the air filter on the filter mounting bracket and release the clamp. Remove the rubber strap. 4. Loosen the hose clamps of air intake hose (from side panel) to air filter. 5. Lift the filter housing and keep it on the work bench. 6. Remove the rear cover of the filter housing by unscrewing the central bolt nut holding the paper filter cartridge. Remove the seal. 7. Unscrew the nut and remove the air filter cartridge. 8. Unscrew the service indicator. Assembly and Installation 1. Insert the cartridge in the central clamp bolt with rubber seal. 2. Fit the rear cover and tighten the clamp nut on the clamp bolt with 25 Nm torque. 3. Place the bottom rubber straps on the filter clamp and place housing on the clamp. 4. Insert the inlet of the air filter in to the inlet hose from the side panel. 5. Place the straps on the upper clamps and clamp the upper clamps with the bolts. is not functioning efficiently it is recommended to replace it with new one.
