ENGINE 73 Tightening sequence Fig. 6 Fig. 7 Fig. 5 7. Remove the turbocharger and exhaust manifold as per the removal procedure. 8. Loosen the cylinder head bolts in the reverse sequence (i.e. : - 17 to 1) (fig. 3). 9. Screw the handle 312 589 01 31 in the cylinder head and lift the cylinder head. (fig. 4). 10. Remove cylinder head gasket. Do not clean the contact sur faces if gasket failure is suspected. Keep it for analysis. 11. Clean tapped holes of studs/ bolts in the crankcase. INSTALLATION OF CYLINDER HEAD 1. Align cylinder head gasket with dowels on crank case ensuring “TOP” mark towards cylinder head. 2. Screw the handle and 312 589 0131 to cylinder head and mount cylinder head on the crankcase (fig. 5). 3. Smear threads of studs with lubricating oil. Do not pour oil into tapped holes of crank case. 4. Insert studs and tighten them with screw driver. 5. Install cylinder head and tighten cylinder head mounting bolts to 6 mkg torque in the correct sequence as shown. Then tighten bolts to 9 mkg torque in same sequence. Then tighten to 11 mkg torque. (fig. 6). 6. Insert push rods in their position. 7. Clean base of rocker shaft brackets and their seats on cylinder head, fit rocker shaft assemblies on cylinder head and tighten mounting bolts slightly (fig. 7).
